I came across
Scarlett Hearts by a friend tweeting about their lovely new purchase. I really loved the bargain jewellery available and think its a little hidden treasure. The lovely Charlottle has been kind enough to give us a little interview to help us get to know Scarlett Hearts a little better.
Tell us a little about your background and how you developed in interest in jewellery making.
I’ve always been obsessed with jewellery, even from a young age playing with beads and dressing up in my mums jewellery. As I got older I started buying costume jewellery from the high street and I always had something different to everyone else.
I’ve worked with jewellery for over 5 years now! (That makes me feel very old!) I work part time in a high end jewellery Store, and when I first started we are taught how to make minor repairs to the jewellery. I guess this is where the interest in making jewellery came from because I seemed to have a knack for it, I seemed to pick up the techniques quickly and putting an extension on a necklace became like second nature. I’ve worked in this store for 5 years and in that time I have gained an understanding of the jewellery itself and retail.
How did you come up with the concept for Scarlett Hearts?
I started making the jewellery for myself during my time at Uni (I have a degree in Geography, no relation to jewellery making or business running…..oops!). As the high street increased their prices for costume jewellery my bank balance was ever decreasing. By making my own jewellery I was making something unique to me, which is something which the high street struggled to offer anymore.
Friends started wanting pieces of my jewellery and suggested I started selling in online. I set up my big cartel account over a year ago now and Scarlett Hearts is going from strength to strength!
Is there meaning behind the name 'Scarlett Hearts?'
My Granddad used to call me Scarlett, all because of a red velvet dress that I used to wear. I always wished that was my real name instead of Charlotte. Scarlett Hearts as a name grew out of many a scrupled piece of paper and in the end it just seems to fit perfectly together.
What inspires your jewellery designs?
I have an eclectic bunch of friends and they always inspire me. I love seeing them wearing my jewellery, makes me think I’m doing something right because they all have different pieces which match their personality perfectly!
Other inspiration comes from trends, I look at magazines when the approaching seasons trends are coming through, I try to think of ways to relate that into my jewellery.
Bloggers and You tubers are a big inspiration! I love to catch up with my fave blogs and find out what they are wearing clothes wise. This allows me to see the trends on the high street and I try and complement my jewellery to that!
Alongside all this, I still stand true to my original reason for starting Scarlett Hearts, having something Unique! I want to make items that are unique to my customer!
How long does it take to make each piece?
It varies depending on the item.
Who is your typical customer?
My Typical customer is aged 16-30 ish who has a jewellery obsession and is looking for something unique but doesn’t want to break that bank balance!
Who would you like to see wearing your jewellery and why?
I’d love to see celebrities wearing my jewellery! Although I personally love to see my customer wearing my jewellery, I love to be tagged in photos or when they tweet me them! That gives me the best buzz!
What other jewellery designers do you admire?
I absolutely adore Butler and Wilson items because they always have something different!
I also used to love Lady Luck Rules OK, I was so sad when they stopped selling jewellery because they also fulfilled my search for something unique! I hope that I am that company that has that effect on people!
What piece of jewellery should every woman have in their jewellery box?
There should always be that necklace that someone is going to stop and say “I love your necklace!”, That necklace is always going to be the piece that brightens up your simple outfit and gives you the finishing touch!
Are there any jewellery designs or materials you would like to try?
I’d love to be able to use more acrylic; I have some ideas for the future regarding that so stay tuned! I love days when new supplies arrive, I just always can’t wait to get started!
What can we expect next from Scarlett Hearts?
Hopefully we will continue to grow; I want to make Scarlett Hearts a go-to for all your jewellery needs! I want more unique pieces that everyone is going to comment on when you wear them! It’s all very exciting at Scarlett Hearts HQ at the moment and I’m still learning every step of the way which is amazing! I can’t thank you enough if you have purchased some Scarlett Hearts in the past year!

I think I would style the necklace with a plain black Tshirt, maybe tucked into some high-waisted jeans with a leather jacket and some comfy pumps like a pair on Toms. I think the necklace would be perfect to add a little edge to an every day casual outfit. Let me know how you would style it, I am so excited to read your answers!
