An Interview With.... Astrid & Miyu

After Purchasing a gorgeous Skull Ring from Astrid & Miyu I thought it would be interesting to learn more about the London-Based company from one of the creators Connie Nam.

Tell us a little about your background and how you developed in interest in jewellery making.
Jenny and I both come from investment banking backgrounds. Having lived in big cities (I lived in Hong Kong and Jenny lived in New York before moving to London) we were always exposed to high fashion and we were both passionate about fashion. Although it was easy to find nice clothes, bags and shoes, we both had a hard time finding a good jewellery retailer. So we decided to start our own boutique. We actually don't make the jewellery ourselves. We work with suppliers that work with high-end designers and make our products through them.

How did you and Jenny come up with the concept for Astrid & Miyu?
We both had a hard time finding that perfect costume jewellery boutique that sells good design, high quality pieces at affordable price points. Most of the nice costume jewellery we found were overpriced. People around us all agreed with this, so we are trying to solve this customer pain through our boutique.

What inspires your jewellery designs?
Very simple. fashion trends / what we like / what our customers like

How long does it take to make each piece?
Depends on the piece and the supplier we work with.

Who is your typical customer?
Independent, fashion forward women, typically aged between 25 and 40

Who would you like to see wearing your jewellery and why?
Kate Middleton, since she British, classy and is a very sensible shopper

What other jewellery designers do you admire?
Ericsson Beamon, Kenneth J Lane

What piece of jewellery should every woman have in their jewellery box?
Simple stud earrings

Are there any jewellery designs or materials you would like to try?
Every possible material available for costume jewellery!

What can we expect next from Astrid & Miyu?
For our immediate summer collections, we are trying to bring lots of bright colours and silvers. For a longer term plan, who know? We'll perhaps offer jewellery for men (we've been getting a lot of enquiries actually) and children!

Inside my Handbag

I have done my first ever guest post on the lovely Lauren Phelan's Blog. She has been running a feature inside bloggers handbags, It has been so interesting to see what they carry around and find hidden in the bottom of their bags. Click here to see my interview.
I was so happy to see she had written she liked my blog layout as I am still fiddling with its design here and there.

I was going out for lunch with some friends when I was taking photos for the post so I have used it as an excuse to show you all my leopard print pencil skirt. You can also see my Ombre hair a little more clearly in these photos.

Top - Topshop
Skirt - Primark
Cardigan - Urban Outfitters
Wedge Boots - Zara
Bag - Asos

I love the skirt, I sometimes get a little conscious of myself when wearing it because I worry I look a little like Kat Slater from Eastenders, but I wanted to try and pick more bold pieces to add to my wardrobe and as this was a bargain £8 I had to have it.

Here are the bits and bobs I carry around with me from day - to - day.

Inside my bag is my Knitting, Company Magazine, a tub of Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour cream, A Champagne cork, Mac Lipglass in Florabundance, Bobbi Brown Lipstick in Gilded Pink, Batiste Dry Shampoo, keys, Camera, Umbrella, Nail file, Swarovski Pen, Alien Perfume, Zara Violetta Perfume, Purse, Packet of Tissues and Slimmer sweetener.

Have you done an 'Inside my Handbag' post? Do you have any styling tips for my leopard print skirt??

Astrid & Miyu

I came across Astrid & Miyu on Twitter after it recommended I follow them, I did but had never been on their website to browse their stuff. Then last week Sara from Saraluxe.com had an outfiit post featuring this skull ring and as soon as I saw it, I needed it.
Astrid & Miyu is a company set up buy two friends who met while in business school in London.

'Through astrid & miyu, we want to help women express their personal styles and update existing wardrobe with high quality yet affordable costume jewellery. we design or hand-pick, and curate every single piece of jewellery for you.
think of us as your best friend with a sense of style who you can trust.'

How cute is all the packaging. I will be keeping my ring in the bag and box on my desk just for something pretty to look at while im not wearing it. I love it when you buy something and the packaging is lovely like this, makes you feel like you are buying something special.

I really like the chunkiness of the ring and glad a chose the 3 skull tier (but I may have to get the single band too) and I think ill be wearing it all the time. The ring is £29 + P&P but when you sign up to an account with them you receive £10 off your first purchase. After hinting to my boyfriend about the ring I was so happy when he brought it for me. There are now so many pieces I have on my wishlist, particularly some bracelets I might have to treat myself to after payday.

Like Sara said 'If you like it put a skull ring on it'
